Janez Tratnik, 60
Coroner, assigned to the Smolnik case <<
>>
"Of course the sheets were damp! People tend to perspirate
while having violent nightmares, don't you think so? Matej Smolnik's
demise is uncommon, sure, but not impossible or, god forbid, supernatural,
as you people are implying! The human body is a complicated machine,
you know.
Sometimes the link between the mind and the rest of the body gets
interrupted, due to inexplicable stimuli. You heard about babies
that simply cease breathing in their sleep? It's a well known phenomenon.
They suffocate to death, surrounded by a room full of air. Bizarre,
wouldn't you say? But not unusual. As for the water in the lungs
business
that's complete nonsense, groundless gossip.
I should know, shouldn't I?"
